Squamosa or Maxima?

I bought this clam from my local LFS a week or so ago and they had it labeled as a squamosa. A friend of mine thinks it looks like it might be a maxima. What do you think? What should I be looking for to make a definate ID?

It does look like a gold maxima, and you got a better deal:) The lighting needs are different though for a maxima...they need much more lighting (I'd recommend MH for sure) and should be up near the top while a squamosa can handle less light and can be kept on the bottom of the tank, again, dependling on lighting. GL.

I was afraid of the lighting issue, although according to liveaquaria.com, the maxima is a lower light clam.

I currently have him under 440W VHO, will that be sufficient?

if thats what they say then i would look else where for your info:rolleyes:

I reread it and they contradict themselves....in the list of requirements it states "high lighting" but then in the description it states that the maxima "needs bright lighting to live, although this is not as critical as it is for some of the other Tridacna clams."

Just goes to show you....I did my research, thought I was getting a squamosa which should have been fine in my tank, but then I get screwed by the LFS!!!

If you keep it, put it up close to the lights. Also feed it. That helps... low light means less food manufactured by clam.

I'm selling the maxima to a friend and getting a confirmed squamosa that the LFS has.

i thought you said you were on your way to get it? better hurry:D

Hey...are you stalking me?!?

Actually, the guy that is buying mine offered to meet me at the LFS so we could make the trade there.

Oops.......I made a boo boo......

I got a new squamosa and when I changed the pic on my webpage it changed the pic I posted here. The original pic was actually a gold maxima although now it shows my new squamosa.
