Squamose- sand or rock/BB

I have my squamosa in my 12g JBJ nano cube and would like to move it to my 50g but it is BB. I was always told the squamosas like to be in the sand, but will it do well on the rocks or bare bottom?

I would love to put it in my 140, but my angels will pick at the mantel.

squamosa are found in the rocks in the wild, and they do perfectly when given a rocky position.

They don't really attach that well. As they get bigger, they kind of use their own weight to anchor themselves down. I think it will do much better on the sand.

My squamosa is about 8 inches across and is "glued" to a rock. It is true, their weight sdoes support them, but they can go in rocks.

Well, "glued"...it byssal threads are pulling it so tightly to the rock that when it quick closes to purge any fish food, the entire piece of live rock rocks back and forth! but not actual glue!

look it up. Squamosa are indeed reef clams (that is found in rocks). There are several other threads in this forum about the same thing too.

The moral of the story is, just find a spot where you clam will be happy- lots of light, not a huge amount of flow, and let it be, rocks, sand, whatever.

My Squamosa is looking pretty bad so I have moved it ot he rocks with less lighting.
