Square Skimmer Body?

I am thinking of building a skimmer with a square body, has anyone tried this and with what sucess? The body is going to be about 9" square by 24" tall, with a 6"x6"x9" bubble diffuser chamber. Oh yea this is going to be a recirculating skimmer using a sedra 3500, and a maxi jet 600 for feed pump. Any comments would be great, the reason for square is availability and price of round acrylic in North Dakota. Thanks Guys.

This skimmer is going to be used for a 75 gallon with about a 40 gallon sump.

I;ve seen them, I couldnt find a link to the one i saw though. I'm with you with the price and availability of round acrylic. A square recirc skimmer should work just fine. The only reason you would need a round chamber is if you wanted to make the bubbles swirl around the inside of the chamber to increase dwell time, but you certainly don't need to do that. I would say go with the sedra 5000 as opposed to the 3500 on a skimmer of that size.

I already have the 3500, but i figured I'd build it and if it's too small I can always upgrade. Also has anyone used a pump to import more air into a sedra 3500? If so what kind and how did it work?

You can alwais upgrade or just go with two pumps! I've alwais kinda liked the idea of using one pump as a recirc pump, and one as a feedpump. Although technically It would be mroe efficient to use both pumps as recirc pumps.
