I am looking into this eel for one of my fresh water tanks. It was caught in freshwater and is currently being kept in freshwater. There isn't much info out on the net.

Has anyone kept one of these things? Any idea if they could really be kept longterm in high PH freshwater?

Thanks in advance for any help!!

Why not keep it in brackish or salt? It would seem better suited to these rather than freshwater.

How do you know the ID is correct? Are you sure it's not G. tile? They are often sold as "freshwater moray eels" though they probably should be in sw as adults.

I have never kept or seen one, but it seems they get very big.

I'd go at least very high end brackish at minimum for this species. I'd move it up in salinity gradually. I believe G. polyuranodon is the only moray that people tend to keep successfully in freshwater for extended periods, and even then, I personally would go at least high end brackish for that or any other "freshwater" moray. Saw the pics of some for sale on another message board some time ago, and it looks like a very interesting species for a very large tank.

Pretty sure the ID is correct. Coming from someone that deals in RARE fish. Indeed another board. Was told that adults were present in the same waters the juvies were harvested in which is fresh.

100% sure it isn't a Tile or Whitecheek.

Thought if they could stay in fresh they could go into the Potomotrygon's 750.
