Stand alone Sump

Has anyone ever come across a tank that was filtered 100% by media, algae, etc. In the sump? How large would a sump have to be if it were intended to filter an aquarium by itself? Let's just say a heavy bio-load in a 1000g to keep it easy.

My sump only contains a bag of activated carbon, pile Of live rock, and a protein skimmer, it is more than adequate filtration for my reef.

What size is ur tank, sump, and bio-load?

Only 85g total in a 1000g tank your going to need a custom sump but it can be done.
