Stand Building Question

Ok, so I'm building my stand and I've got the whole mainframe thingy done. Next I need to know what thickness my particle board or plywood should be for the top of the stand? I looked at the 3/4" and it's expensive and seems like overkill. Why can't I get away with some 9/16"?

Also what type of wood should I use there for a tank roughly 60 gallons.

You can use any thickness of wood that you desire Jeff. It's nothing but a "skin".

You really don't need a "top" of the stand at all. Your tank is designed to be "self supporting" so all you need is something for the outside of the tank to sit on. Look at metal stands ... they don't have a "top".

right capn........old people are so smart. just kiddin. Not about the smart thing, but about the being old thing.

Anyways, good point. I guess I just assumed it was important since I've always seen people use them. Then do I need anything to support the bottom glass pane? or just the edges to support the perimeter of the tank?

You young bastages are all alike! No respect for someone who may be a year or two older than you.:D

All you really need to support is the perimeter .....jerk!:D

What brand tank is it? Oceanic, All-Glass, Perfecto's (Normal tanks LFS sell) do not anything but the outside perimeter like Capo said. But if its Acrylic or the whole bottom is glass with no outer trim around the bottom, it will need to be put on flat surface.
