Stand Design for 120 gal

For anyone that has a standard 120 gal (4'x2'x2') or 180 (6'x2'x2') or similar:

Does your stand have a support running down the center or is the tank only supported around the perimeter?

Pascal, it looks like yours is sitting only on the outside rim, Gary I think I remember yours is a perfecto tank and stand and there is no center support either. I can remember building a stand for KentE's 120 that only had outside support as well. I'm asking because I'm wondering if the bottom pane needs to be supported or not.

Thanks!

That's what I thought. I looked at a Marineland stand the other day though and it had a piece of wood running front to back in the center... not sure why

More likely it was for torsional strength for the stand rather than support for the bottom pane of glass. Because most Marineland/Perfecto/etc mass-produced stands are built with the cheapest/thinnest wood possible, some creative bracing can be found in them. It's cheaper for them to use 1" thick wood all around and have a few braces than to just use 2" wood all around with no braces

commercial stands are usually cut on computer driven panel saws. i could usually make a cut list that used the entire sheet of wood with minimal ,if any waste. marineland stands would not be a stand i would chose to emulate.
