Stand for display and sump w/ same footprint

I will be upgrading my current tank to a 65 gallon and would like to make my 40 breeder my sump but am running into issues with how to make the stand without oversizing it too much. I would also like to have the sump sit back 3-4" inches behind the display so that my drain and return lines can be a simple straight pieces of pvc. Is this possible or am I going to have to oversize the stand? The other issue i have is that the sump will have to go in after the tank is up and running as I will have to convert the 40 into a sump and install baffles .

After looking online some more I found a similar design and made my own version. All horizontal boards are 2x4's and all 4 vertical boards will be 2x6's or possibly 2x8's if needed. Everything will be wrapped in 3/4" plywood to add even more support. Would this design work or is there something i'm overlooking? The backside will also have another 2x4 on the floor out about an inch past to allow me to bring the tank back like I wanted for my overflow and return.

Also please ignore the depth dimension it was meant to be the top 2x4's length.

Plywood box. Miter corners and pocket screw from inside. Dado bottom into sides. Dado back into sides.

One vertical 2 x 4 will hold each corner. If you are going to have an open front then you may need a 2x6 or 2x8 on the horizontal members. You have the frame sizing backward. 2 x 6 corners are way over kill.

My original plan was to leave the front open until I could finish the sump so I could just slide it in and then add the front in but in the mean time having the added support without the front. As I continue reading though I'm starting to lean towards all plywood as nuttyd said. Since I want the tank to slide 2-3" out the back would it still be structurally sound to have the back wall only come down to about 4" above the sump and as for the front I wouldn't be able to do a full panel so I was thinking two strips, one running across the top and one along the bottom and adding the doors afterwards.
