Stand hinges... a little problem

Ok, so the hinges on the doors of my 72g bow are completely rusting away. So, no big deal, go to Home Depot, right?

Nope. Guess who makes these hinges.

Yep, obviously, only the best.
Ferrari.

Now that I've read the rusted writing on the wall, so to speak, I have no clue where I'm supposed to find these. So far, I've only found one place online that sells them, and they have a minimum $25 order. Seems silly, as I need exactly 4 $2 hinges.

It's not *the* Ferrari, you know, the company Enzo founded, but it's still pretty funny. The Ferrari website for hinges, here, doesn't have anything that looks like My hinges.

Anyone wanna go in on a group hinge order? Just kidding. Actually, does anyone know of a local company that sells these funky Italian hinges?

I've never had this happen before, in my 8 reefing years.

Weird, huh?

Those look like hinges that came on some inexpensive cabs I bought at lowes last fall. Maybe look at the cabs, and if they match, and lowes can't help, try to contact the cabinet company direct.

i have seen stuff that looks very similar locally, but cannot think where. did you find ones that where close?

The plan is to replace all of them, but they're a "european offset" style, and since the doors are hung to a certain offset, unless I get the exact same measurements, the doors won't meet like they're supposed to. I didn't realize it would be this precise until I bought the wrong ones. (The only ones in the style at HD).

What I need is an old-fashioned hardware store where the old-timer at the counter says "Well Miss, the part you need is right over here," and he opens some random drawer and there it is. I had one of these places near my home in Kansas City, but don't know where to start here. Perhaps Ace?

never underestimate the local hardware store. The one down in winter park...millers I think it is, is a nice big one, with a decent amount of stock and people that actually know what is going on.

That European style with the offset isn't difficult to match. Woodcraft in Casselberry might have it in stock but you could call and ask them.

Rockler.com has a lot of hinges, but my first choice would be McMaster.com for ordering online because they are efficient and you'll get it fast. They have European hinges if you know your offset and if you order it before 4pm Monday you'll get it in UPS Tuesday. Shipping is usually around $5. Their website is a little weird at first but the European hinges are on page 2392.

All you need to do is find the overlay, the amount of door that hangs over the face frame of the cabinet. HD sells 5/8" overlay as well as full overlay euro style hinges. Otherwise you can go to Woodcraft or if your close to Orange and the 528 you can go to a place called Hardware Innovations. They have a great selection of in stock items.

I'm with cstires, Home Depot does sell Euro-style hinges and I would swear that I've seen ones that at least look close to the link you posted.

I don't know how many times I looked through their hinge bins before I noticed they had those hinges.

The first HD, the Lowes, and 2 local hardware stores didn't have it. But the second HD (I was just driving by and thought I'd check) did!

Woo hoo!

I'm glad you found them.

Just in case others need some - the Home Depot in Oviedo carries them. I think the Lowes does as well.

Where did you find yours Mrs Smith?
