Standalone Doser

I purchased a standalone doser from someone off of the classified section. It was represented as "new" and it seems to be so as there is zero sign of it ever being used. Everything appears as it would from the initial packaging. Today is the first chance I've had to dedicate some time to setting it up.

After plugging the unit into the supplied transformer, the digital readout for dosing schedules scrolls uncontrollably. I pushed the center button to set the Time/Date and the clock does the same. It just quickly scrolls through all the numbers. Pushing that button again allows me to at least set the date, but that about it.

Is this unit DOA? Is there something I am missing here in terms of operation? Can new firmware be downloaded for the unit? Some advice is appreciated.

Well what ever the issue was, seems to have corrected itself. I unplugged it after about an hour, as the manual states there is an internal battery that will allow the unit to retain the settings after being unplugged. I figured this might be the issue. Now, after unplugging it and then plugging it back in, the unit is stable.
