Star recomendation?

After recently having a red sea star kick the bucket after a successful 4 month period I am left wanting another.

After doing some research on stars I found that my red sea star was in some ways doomed from the beginning and it was quite a stroke of luck for him to live through acclimation. I think it did him in when I upgraded tanks, but used new sand to not have a detrius cloud.

So I am at a loss in knowledge and time to educate myself properly at the present. With that said I would like some suggestions on stars that will survive in my aquarium without any special care......

I have a 29 gallon "softie reef"..... some zoo's, shrooms, LPS, etc. Plenty of LR to graze on, and semi stable water parameters (the LR is from a tank started in May as well as the filters and PH's). Other than that the water is immaculate RO/DIx2.

Oh yeah one more thing, I would like for it to be under 8" adult and pretty to look at, my girlfriend doesn't like the snake looking serpents.

Any responses on personal experiences will be greatly appreciated.

Other than serpent and brittle stars no star is suited for a tank that small. All of the reef safe stars need large, established tanks to find enough of whatever it is they're grazing on.

I was afraid so. Thats originally what drew me to the red star, it stayed small.

Then let me ask this what is a good size tank for a linkia star? Would a 90Gal be sufficient?

Might have to upgrade again!

L. multifora would probably do well in a 90g, but that size would be borderline for most other species. Usually the tanks the other species do well in are somewhere around 120. In any case, the tank should be mature so there's plenty of "stuff" established on the rock for them to graze.
