Starboard for a BB nano

Setting up an 18g nano in my office and I've decided to go bare bottom. I got two pieces of starboard from a buddy of mine in black and white.

(Side note: if anyone ever needs anything acrylic made or you just need to buy some acrylic/starboard/plastic/etc. Faulkner Plastics is phenomenal. Family owned and just great people).

Anyway, two questions:

1) Do you think black or white would look better?
2) Should I silicone around the edges of the starboard so that it seals? In other words, should I worry about detritus being trapped underneath the starboard?

I put plexi down in my old 90 BB. I didnt silicone it down and did get some detrius build up but i also got alot of pods. My mandrin goby used to hang out by the edges alot.

As far as color i would go black, i dont like the look of the white starboard. Looks to much like you are trying for sand but not. Just my opinion.

White will be higher maintenance. There is a thread in the SPS forum where someone went white bottom and it looked AMAZING but unless you are as anal retentive about keeping it pristine, I'd go with the black.

Wow. How the hell do you even keep it that clean?!?

It's an office tank so I'm not going to have time to be anal retentive. Black it is.

Thinking I may silicone the edges. Tank is too small for mandarins anyway!

Would rather play it safe and keep the detritus out.

Glad we could help:hmm4:

Sneak Peak...I'll post a separate build thread soon. I like the black though. It's kind of like black sand, but it won't ever get white. Of course, eventually it'll get covered with coralline which might look even cooler. Thanks for the suggestions guys.
