Anyone here at RC using starboard on their bare bottom system?

I've heard that you should use this starboard in your bare bottom system to protect the bottom of your tank, in case a rock falls, it won't break the bottom of the tank.
I'm wondering about detritus getting in the cracks the edges and seams.
