starburst polyp care!

The green starburst polyp i was given has been in my tank for about 2 weeks, and i have seen no growth. Each poylp is about 1/8" tall and brown. I read (from the New-first time on RC-Look here for Answers thread about supplements) that trace elements or iodine doesnt need to be added (the page suggested against adding them)

So im trying to figure out what i am doing wrong (if anything) and how to make these grow. They are placed higher up in the tank and a good flow and under 54x4watt T5HO light in my 75gallon tank

My water params
PH: 8.0
Nitrites: 0
Nitrates: 0
Ammonia: 0
Calcium 480
alkalinity: 10-11

Any suggestion or advice on what to do?

its only been 2 weeks. give it time . its just now getting used to you tank... trust me when it gets going you will wish you never put it in

ok, since this is my first coral thing in my tank, i wasnt sure on how fast everything should go.

Also, ive looked into the eventual growth rate of the starburst, and its got me a little bit scared to leave it were it is, since i dont want it to take over all the rocks!

Would it be okay to move the starburst to a single rock away from the other rocks, as in it would be very low in the tank and surrounded by sand/glass so i wouldnt have to worry about it taking over all the rocks. the coral arrived at my door as a surprise gift for b-day, so i didnt know much about it

Thanks again for the help!

are we talking about the same thing as green star polyp [GSP]? if so, it will spread onto glass as well. Some have posted that they use GSP as their tank background! putting it lower, hence less light, will retard growth somewhat, but once it gets going you just have to manage it. one way is to continually frag it as it grows - usually toward the light. put rubble in the path of growth, and once it spreads onto the loose rock, cut the purple mat with an exacto knife and you've cut back on the colony as well as gotten a frag to trade. some LFS will take them for food, hardware or whatever else they're willing to do.

i believe it is the same thing as green star polyp, if its easier enough to frag (sounds like you just cut the purple mat) then i guess i can leave it where it is and just keep it in check
