Starfish food???

I have Harlequin shrimps and as you all may know they like to dine on starfish. With choc. chip starfish going for about 8 bucks a pop this is pretty expensive over the long haul. I recently got some advice which claims that starfish captured locally from our bay waters can be used to feed the Harlequin shrimps. Even went on to say that it is possible to stock up by cutting the starfish into sections and freezing. Defrost and introduce to the tank and voila a meal fit for a Harlequin shrimp.

Any comments or contradictory suggestions?

Thanks, maybe my waverunner will be a useful means for capturing starfish from canal bulkheadings throughout the great south bay this summer.

I thought these guys liked their food live and fresh--but if it is workable--why not. get a chip star to have on hand in another tank while you try the frozen kind...

I never tried frozen stars with my Harlequins, but I have also heard that starfish caught in local waters would be an acceptable meal.

I will let everyone know how it works, the waverunner goes in the water 5/13!!!

Hopefully, the starfish will not polute the tank. I am finally getting it the way I want it!!!

If you have a reef, there are some pretty significant worries associated with these local stars. You can count on them eating corals, they are local, and used to cool water.
