Maybe it's just a mutant linkia star:p. haha, I dunno, because it really does look like a normal linkia besides the freakish leg number...

Seems everybody thinks so as well. I guess it will jus remain a mystery. When it splits into more ima charge a arm and a leg... Haha it goes both ways.

It may very well be a Linckia, although it looks a little odd. The typical red Linckia isn't as "fuzzy" looking, is smoothly red, and is probably a little skinnier? There are a few starfish experts around (I'm not one), maybe one will drop by and give you a species-level ID.

Cheers,

Don

Bringing it back for some new blood to have a look!

I think its a "common starfish" based strictly on appearence. The legs are still messed up either way, this sometimes happens when part of the central disc breaks, and sometimes instead of 1 leg growing back along with part of the disc, two legs will jam together.

I'm confused? My starfish dosnt have legs jammed together?? I wanted to know what specifically it was, if it was common I'm sure I would know what it is by now.

Its a wild guess, I think its "Asterias rubens" also called the common starfish. What I mean by the legs being jammed together is there are five legs.. and V shaped spaces inbetween all of them, instead sometimes when starfish grow back their disc and legs one extra leg will jam and grow inbetween that V space. I've had many many asterinas do the such.

... I have asternias, this starfish eats them... I was thinking it was a red linkia? But it has seven legs...
Also it looks nothing like a asterias Rubens..
