Starfish Question

Can anyone tell me what kind of starfish this is and if it is reef safe?

Looks like a local Conical Spined or Spiny Sea Star. Found in local waters in sand and I've seen them wash up on the beach too. Don't know if reef safe but most local inverts will eat corals and such.

curious, do you think that type of starfish will only eat softies, or will it go after LPS and SPS to?

i would imagine if it ate softies there isnt any reason why it wouldnt eat the others as well. If you decide to put it in your tank i would watch it very very closely. As for me, I wouldnt risk it. Just my .02 worth.

It was more of a curiosity question. I'm not a big fan of most starfish anyway and only have them if they serve clean up duties. I know a lot of them will eat just about anything so stay away from them for that reason alone.
