What are a good starfish that could help control the detritus in the tank

Any of the mini brittle stars or some of the larger brittle stars.

Brittle stars are good. Sand sifters as well but they do not always do well due to the high volume of organic matter needed to sustain them, unless it is a well seasoned or established system. Sea cucumbers do amazingly well in healthy established systems. BUT if something else is out of whack leading to detrital build-up, tossing a sea star in there is probably not going to solve anything.
