I as thinking about getting a blue lychen (i believe) for my tank. Wondering how to go about feeding the star fish

Are you refering to a blue linkia (Linckia laevigata). If so, I personaly have never cared for one, but from what ive researched in the past, nobody really knows exactly what they eat some eat some things, and others wont, which is what makes them hard to care for. From what ive read some thrive and others die, and with no ryhme or reason to it
On a side not they are really cool tho

Live rock is the key for their survival, the more the better. Everything that I have read points to them eating a "film" off of the rock. I would not try one in a tank with less than 150 lbs of mature rock. Linckias are also HIGHLY susceptible to acclimation shock, can take up to a month to kill it. I would acclimate for at least 4 hours. If the LFS did not acclimate it properly it is doomed. They are hard to keep but by no means impossible. Check out wet web for more info. http://www.wetwebmedia.com/linckiabehfaqs.htm

checked your profile, a linckia cannot survive in a 29 gallon.

If you would like a star, look into serpents or brittle. A serpent or brittle (avoid the green brittle) will work in a 29, just supplement feedings with meaty foods. Avoid linckias and fromias for your size tank.
