Starry blenny

Are they hard to keep? Do they eat hair algae? What kinds of food do they like to eat? If anyone out there could tell me thanks a ton.

I've seen full grown starries in full blown reef tanks. I don't think them to be detrimental. I was considering a starry myself for when I set up my 180. Fully mature the fish have unique coloring, and nice little tuffs of hair on there head. :D

I have one! He is very social and likes to eat bloodworms, brineshrimp, and yes he also eats algae off of the rocks and sides. I've seen him eat some hair algae but not sure if he was actually eating it or eating something around it. His favorite is frozen bloodworms. When I introduced my tang to the tank the blenny actually turned white because he was intimidated. When he eats he turns dark brown with tiny white dots. Watching him change colors is so cool!

Here's mine!!

Thanks a ton guys, i just went and picked him up and boy is he a fatty. The owner of the lfs who i know said he is even better than a lawnmower for algae and i take his word for it, b/c when i was there he had hair algae in one of the tanks and had a starry blenny in there and all we saw was the starry eating the hair algae. I cant wait to put him in my tank.

I just released him about 20 mins ago and boy did he take off. He went to this one rock that had a lot of hair algae on it and just started mowing it down, then he did the funniest thing where he just sat there kinda saying look what i have just done, it was funny.

Yep! He's king of the mountain now. Watch out for his rather large poop! I couldn't believe that a fish that size can poop that much. But, look at what he eats all day. Enjoy!
