STARS proposition

Hi everybody I wanted to bring this up at the next meeting but decided I rather bring it up now so everybody has a chance to think or give comments..

As you know almost everyone has a facebook.. I was thinking that appart from RC, and the website, to make something for STARS on facebook, if you havent noticed almost every one says.. "Follow us on Facebook".. For me facebook is much easier to use than RC and even the website and I think for new people that are just joining STARS this or even the website can be 2 confusing.. believe me at first this was confusing for me and I bearly started getting the hang of it. I was just proposing to have somethng on for STARS on facebook... Some people are on facebook most of the time. This is just an idea on how to get more people to join STARS and grow. I want to know if somebody else feels the same way about it. Thanks

Beto

I think it's a great idea but its getting someone to update the STARS Facebook page--day in day out. One thing I do like about Facebook is that it is FREE social media unlike a website where there is monetary monthly fee that STARS does not pay for. If I am correct to say, I think Daniel and Leonor at TCR pay for the website (how wondeful are these 2 individuals?!)

It took a while to get the website up for STARS and takes a lot of energy to get this updated. So unless you want to be the "official" STARS Facebook creator and updater, go for it Beto!

its a good idea but we are there then use it. it doesnt really need updating on facebook. its more of another way to be connected. but now i see that this forum should be number one and first. instead of starting to spread out so to speak.

Any of you can use any forum to communicate about your hobby that you would like to use. Reef Central is a saltwater forum and we are all in the saltwater hobby. Reef Central is also where the official club forum is and it is in the by laws as such and stated as an official place to give notice of club business such as special meetings along with other things. We have our own club forum here and it does take a little doing to have a club forum. Plus just look at all the other info at your fingertips here at RC.

I really can't think of any reason to want to try to use another place to communicate about our hobby other than here or another saltwater forum. This is JMO

Hans you are totally correct in saying that The Coral Reef has a paid sponsorship and it just so happens that, that sponsorship did pay for the website for a year. The Coral Reef is a premium sponsor of STARS they are on the sponsor page on the website as well as having a link to their store website there. The sponsorship from The Coral Reef is greatly appreciated.

I strongly urge everyone to support STARS sponsors as much as possible. Keep in mind there is a big difference in what I believe Erik posted in a thread about the LFS's being STARS supporters and an actual STARS sponsor.

I think Erik mentioned the stores as STARS supporters based on the fact that they agreed to tell people about STARS and hand out our cards. It is great to have the stores support in that way and greatly appreciated. That does not mean they have a paid sponsorship or are listed as sponsors on the website. I would like to see more of the stores have a paid sponsorship and add them to our website.

Sorry if I took this off topic but it was mentioned and i ran away with it.
Pedro is right he did try to get something going on FB for the club but soon found out this is really the place to have the club forum. Well put Pedro!

it is always good to toss ideas out there and see where they go. We should all share all of our ideas, if none of us gave ideas then we would be stuck in one spot and never have any change.
