Start of yet another 2.5

Alright, looking through all these nano/pico tanks here.. you guys have inspired me to start my own. I had a 20g L a while back so I had most of the stuff. It's a plain ol' 2.5g I picked up at my local LFS. I'm not going to have a skimmer so I'll be keeping up on my water changes. The light it nothing fancy.. it's a 15W desk light. Here ar some pictures. Feel free to comment on whatever you want whether it's a compliment or not.

Just the plain tank. You know you love my background.

The FTS. I went with the "less is more" style aquascape, if what I have can even be considered an aquascape. :lol:

The light.. nothing fancy. Eventually I'll upgrade.

That's it so far. Opinions welcome.

Ok, here's some small minor updates. I found a light laying around in the basement that I had from a long time ago. I put in a regular light bulb which is to be replaced with a coralife 50/50 bulb.

I also added some small pieces of LR.

That's pretty much it for now. More updates soon.

Thanks for the compliments guys. This is the light with the old aquascape so you can get an idea of what the light looks like, since you've only seen the bottom.

My friend is giving me a small piece of LR, some Live Sand from his tank since mine is semi-alive. I'm also thinking about building a canopy for the light, but I'm not 100% sure yet.

Here's some more updates ladies and gentlemen.

First off, I replaced the regular light bulb with a 50/50 bulb.

I also decided against buliding a canopy, but I didn't want to keep the light resting on the glass. So, this is what I came up with.

Finally, I painted the background black, and this is where I am now.

Oh, and this is a Macro-ish shot of a cool hermit crab I got from my friend.

so far it looks awsome! one thing tho...you said that you didnt want the light resting on the glass...do you mean that you have a glass top over it that it would have been resting on? if so, i'd suggest getting that off, as it can cause a couple of problems.

but thats great rockwork as everyone said.

Thanks guys. Henry, the light is 20w. As for corals, I'll be getting frags from one of my friend's tank. Probably some Zoos, GSP, Mushrooms, Xenia, etc. The light was resting on a glass cover, but it's gone now.

ya thats awsome like lobsterchick said. What is the gph rating on that pump? I've got an acrylic 2.5 sitting around, and i've also got a whisper 20 laying around. I'm not sure what the gph is on the wisper, but its not much i know...would that be enough flow for a 2.5 tho? I've basically got everything but the bulb laying around and i'd like to set one of these up too.

Thanks Karen. It's hard to come up with pricing for this. I mean, I had the rock, heater, sand, etc. from my previous tank. I'm also getting my livestock from my friend from his personal tank. I found the light laying around my house, which I think is supposed to be for a reptile. I'm thinking about upgrading my light anyway though. The only thing I bought recently was the actual tank which was $10, and the salt which was $12. I bought everything else a while ago so I don't remember how much it cost me. That's about it. Sorry I can't help you any further. If you have anymore specific questions let me know.

Thanks again. I think it's 90 GPH, which is fine for a 2.5g tank. It's 36 x turnover. I don't think a filter would be enough flow, even if it was 90 GPH, it's still not the same as a powerhead IMO. You might want to consider a Micro Jet in addition to the filter. I say if you have everything except the bulb, go for it.

Looking good. You know, GSP are notorious for growing really fast and stinging everything in their wake. This particular variety has made other types of GSP seem tame in this regard, and has dominated most of my 15 within three months. Get that guy to an isolated rock unless you fancy a sea of green a month from now!

Let me know when you're ready for some yuma. I have finally learned how to chisel them off rocks. I told you those tongs serve many purposes.

By the way billy how are you keeping your nitrates and calcium levels in check. Are you just doing a lot of water changes to keep them in check or are you doing something else?
