Hey im not so "new" to the hobby but i do have a new tank setup but am having a problem. I just bought a 36 gallon cube tank and stand and the only thing i have in the tank is the water and thermometer and filter.. the filter is a Fluval 205 it's rated for no more than 40 gallons so i got it. Anyways i dont have anyt live rock... i plan on buying that on friday...PAY DAY$$$ anyways... why is my water cloudy???? I bought the green cap Reverse Osmosis water from wal-mart.. yea yea i need a RODI water filter... ill get that here in a few months but for now this is just fine... why is the water cloudy... i have crushed coral and sand in the bed.... PLEASE HELP ME... im kinda worried....

thanks
Josh

It's most likely from the sand/crushed coral, there's no need to worry. It will settle after a few days.

Exactly what happened to my 33G with minimal live rock and a Zebra Moray Eel and Ghost Ribbon Eel...after dumping the water and substrate in the tank it clouded right up, but she was nice and clear after a day or so...nothing to worry about. Only other possibility would be if the sand was out of another tank and you had a cloud starting up due to the beginings of your tanks cycle...but it's more likely just the substrate "settling in".

I'd put my money on the crushed coral. you have to rinse that stuff for a while. Also did you trash the first 15 gallons or so from the RO filter. That may cause it also.

Good call, never thought of the water...but my substrate in the beginning was from a running tank and it still clouded things up...so it might just be a matter of time.
