hey used to be in the hobby full force but have been out the past few years concentrating more on school. I remember a friend told me about this site and it was a good place to find some used equip possibly. gf and I are just looking to setup a 10gall nano with soft corals and a perc pair. nothin fancy but if anyone has some old filters or 10's layin around lemme know :) thanks

i think your best bet would be to get a nano cube by jbj - reef works in lake mary and the fish bowl in longwood i think have the best price on them - then alls you need is rock, sand and water.

If you're just looking for a cheap 10G, go to petsmart and pick one up for $8 or something similar. Cheapest way to go.

but then you have to buy the reef lighting and filter - and it would be nice to have a top. a power head would also be nice. then your right up to the price of the all in one jbj system. they sell them used sometimes on here and other sites.

With softies and a perc pair, he could easily get away with just a small PC fixture, an mj 600, and a small filter.

Petsmart now sells 10G tanks with lids and dual socket lighting(could put two retrofit PC bulbs in) for $25. And a $15 pump and a small $20 filter and he could get away with $60 just for the setup(without rock, sand, corals, fish, etc). A nanocube starts at $200 or so, right? I do recommend getting a good skimmer or HOB(housed/hang on back) refugium for it though, instead of a cheap filter. Spend $75-100 on the skimmer and it will improve the tank significantly.

no no - they are like 89.00 to 169.00 or something like that. depending on which light kit you get and what size. i love the dx model. but either way would work and then he wouldnt have to have a used tank.

Really!? Only $89? Which ones am I thinking of? Maybe a bio cube or an aquapod? I don't know exactly.

That's not a bad price for the whole unit...it looks much nicer than a standard 10G with equipment running everywhere.

Welcome back to the hobby. If you can hang around on the forum someone is usually selling a Nano Cube. They are great because they are everything you need in a nice package and all the equipment is hidden in the back. If you do set up a 10g I personally wouldn't use a skimmer, just do small weekly water changes. It replenishes the trace elements and helps remove the waste. Make sure you go to the club meeting because the frag auction is a great way to fill up a nano for cheap!

ya i actually hosted a club meeting a few years back when i was in . . . . . .some of you probably know me but we'll keep that on the low ha. Ya my friend just got a nice 180ish gallon he started up and seeing that im really thinking about how much i miss having saltwater and the miss loves clownfish. so i was thinking about a perc pair and a shrimp/goby matchup as well. Im still going back and forth on whether or not I want to go back to corals and the whole bit right away. im thinking ill just ease back into it. ill probably search around for one of the promagnum biofilters i think is what it was called. i had it on my other 10 and it did a great job. is the fish bowl still up and running ? i havent seen greg in such a long time itd be nice to make my appearance on free beer friday lol
