Hello,
I'm so lost and need advice we are starting a 90 gallon tank from scratch we have live sand heater 2 powerhead and live rock. My question is about the filter and skimmers. Do we need both or just one. My husband wanted a fluval 406 but I have been reading that it's better to have a protein skimmer then a filter. We do have a over the back we had on a smaller 55 gallon we can use just for the air circulation but not really sure where to go from here . Thanks so much for any advice

If it's only fish, they can tolerate nitrates up to 100+ppm i hear. so long as you keep a routine water change schedule 15%-20% per week I don't see a problem. For protein skimmer you'd have to rig in a sump and add extra plumbing. Filter is decent but you risk water being dumped out of your tank if there's ever any clogs
