Starting a New Tank

How long should one wait to add corals (sps and anemones) after a tank cycles? Because I know for the next month or two, major algae outbreaks happen, so what do you think?

I waited about 6-7 months before I added any SPS. I waited about a month after the cycle to put in LPS. Reason I did that was even though your tank is cycled, it is not established and stable yet (for as parameters). LPS can be a little forgiven when it comes to up and down parameters, while SPS is not, requiring stable and constant conditions. Once my tank cycled, that's when I started quarantining my first 2 fish for 8 weeks, after the TTM.

I tried searching but could not find the thread. Sk8r posted a thread on the forum on how to introduce coral into a newly cycled tank ahead of fish. I do not want to misquote him so maybe trying searching for it since I could find it would help you out.

It's usually recommended to wait about a year before adding anemones. Algae outbreaks don't always happen that fast. A lot of people experience "the uglies" around the 6 month to 1 year mark.

One month after cycle, I added couple of softies, one month later, I added few LPS, and couple of months later, I added just two SPS frags. The SPS have been doing very well for 7 weeks, so I got some more. I wanted anemone, but I changed my mind.

The most important thing is to understand your system and its behavior and how to fix or adjust something quickly. You have to be diligent with good husbandry practice.

Sps and nems can be more sensitive than others. I don't think there's like a rule (people do say a year for nems) I think it's just once you haven't had a disaster for a while and all your levels are steady. It's partly about the tank, getting stabilized on your biofilter and benthic critters; and partly about the reefer, getting to know the tank and learning what not to do.

Soft coral, mushrooms, and some lps are much hardier. You can put some cheap ones in whenever you like as long as you haven't got algae so bad that it will smother them, and your levels are reasonable (nitrates below ~20 and ato / heaters on point).
