Starting a salty

I currently have tons of freshwater tanks but now I want to set up a salty.

My planned first tank is a 29g. Currently has a standard HOB filter and a Finnex RayII planted LED light on it.

I'd like to do a light mix of live rock/coral and a couple of small fish if possible.

what kind of options can you recommend and advice?

I'll be breaking down the tank this weekend and giving it a good cleaning. Looking to fill by Saturday with live sand.

Thanks kindly

For a tank without an overflow bult in my recommendation would be to keep on using the HOB filter (with a new filter of course) and add an in-tank skimmer or HOB skimmer. Tunze 9002 or Aqua-maxx HOB would be my recommendations. A

Start with live rock and start your cycle before adding a clean up crew and eventually fish. There are lots of good live rock and dry rock resources depending on how you want to get things started. On my new tank I decided to go with Pukani dry rock from bulkreefsupply.com and will buy/bum some seed rock and sand for the local reef club.

That LED grow light is most likely in the wrong spectrum and intensity for corals though. If you're a competent DIY guy then I would recommend looking at rapidled.com or reefll.com and read up on their LED information. You can also find relatively inexpensive T5 set ups from the usual major retailers that would do a fine job of lighting as well.

Good luck!
