Starting Dosing

I just purchased the BRS two part...before I go adding should I assume that I need Mg. to be set first so the Calcium wont precipitate out? Thanks

That's what I did although it won't precipitate out immediately it will keep the levels more stable, what is your current MG level?

You need to test for magnesium and only add it if necessary.

dont ever dose anything you dont test for so yes check the levels first then dose the tank

I know I have to test first and do! Mg. Is 840...needs dosing

Thats low, but i usually test for mg 1st, then cal, and alk last. I usually only test mg once a month though

It's damn low! Don't know why. Only option I've thought of....two weeks dosing don't know how much is too much but don't want to dump 14oz. Of solution a day says I need 123oz on brs calculator slowly but surely...we'll see

I'd test some freshly mixed salt water as well - that's a very low Mg result.

I'd consider testing the test kits also - take some water to your LFS and let them test it. Also - what test kits are you using? How old are they? My preference is for Salifert across the board - easy to use and very repeatable results
