Starting Dwarf Seahorse tank

Well, I plan to treat everything I put in the tank that is live with Panacur. Where can I get some? Also, if I keep an eye out, could I add a Gorgonia and take it out if I see any Hydroids? Plus, the Gorg will eat the BBS right? So that takes care of feeding it. lol

Gorgonians will die from a Panacure treatment as will a lot of other inverts and corals. Most algae eating snails will not survive.

Panacur is not a single treatment that goes away after you stop dosing. It will stay in your tank for a long time. I have used Panacure in a tank over a year ago and to this day can not keep astrea snails, sea hares, gorgonians, or xenia just to name a few.

If you search on any of the seahorse sites you will find lots of info as to the effects of Panacure.

I found Panacur in the Wal-Mart Pet department. It's a canine dewormer called fenzabenzadole? or something like that. It's the same stuff seahorsesource.com has on their website, but wasn't really any cheaper.

When I said treating live things, I didnt mean animals. I meant stuff like LR and plants if I can. I definatly did word it wrong though. lol. Can I keep 10 dwarfs are their fry in the 2.5g hex?

Even if you treat the LR, some of the residual Panacure will enter your tank and it will be just like treating the tank itself with a smaller dosage.

10 dwarfs in a 2.5 will be fine and allow you some room for fry.

Do you still plan on having coral after having base rock?

They also introduce hydroids, then you have to treat the tank. They get treated and die. If you take them out and treat, they cannot be reintroduced to the tank or they die and reinfest the tank with hydroids,

Well, then I will take a chanve and get a Gorgonia. And just take it out and treat the tank if I see any hydroids. I am ordering from www.floridacollector.com funman1.

I have had my seahorses since april and have had great success with them. First thing, make sure that you get CAPTIVE BRED!!!! In darn near all cases, captive bred animals do much better than wild caught in the aquarium. Also, I set mine up with lots and lots of macro algae, and I swear by the stuff. It is difficult to aquascape, but my nitrates are extremely low and I think that the trade off is worth it. Also put ina purigen pack. All I have is live rock, macro algae, and purigen. I am using two coralife 50/50 screw in pc's, and I am very happy with the results.

Well, decided to take the LR out. And I got my Palm Filter in, so here are some new pics!

You can see how small the filter is with the lightswitch in the backround! it works really, REALLY well actually!
