starting my 2 gallon reef tank!!!

Thanks salty sure you can I got the idea from here as well. The only thing I have noticed is that i have to top off everyday to keep the filter running right. I think if I notched the pipe lower to let more water drain into it I would'nt of have run into this problem. Still experimenting with it!

Cool,I have a 2.5 gallon nano.I should have thought of that surface skimmer idea.it skind of cool,I dont have any fish in it yet,and I have Pods and bristle worms everywhere.I mean,I have more Pods in my 2.5 gallon then I do on my 7+ gallon refugium on my 55g.

I have the same lights as you have there,my only corals though are a colony of star polyps and some xenia from my 55 that wasnt doing well. I have never done any water changes, and only do top off,and I never really plan to put in any fish, becasue everything is doing great now. But im having trouble getting the star polyps to grow any.But cool tank, good luck.

I am thinking of building some kind of stand for my light to sit on.

I am setting up a 2.5g nano too--that PVC idea is sweet! So it is just essentially an internal overflow, the water flows in through the notches and fills to the point the power filter picks it up? Is it noisy?

And also, do you have a little powerhead in ther enow? Was the flow insufficient? I was thinking of nixing the power filter in mine in exchange for airlifts--

Thanks!

The overflow is actually very quite. The only thing is when the water level drops the filter sucks in air which is a little noisy.
I add about 1 cup of ro a day.
The reason for the powerhead is I added some xenia and it was not doing so good:0(
Thanks for the replys!!!

I was just wondering, by looking at the set-up with the overflow how you have it, I take it the water evaporates out of there first. So are you having trouble keeping it filled? I mean it is not so bad when the tank looses it but when you lose it out of a pipe that you have for an overflow, just seems the water level would drop too low too fast. For instance if you were to go away for the weekend or on a vacation, seems like it would get too low to continue working.
