starting rotifer culture

where would i get a started culture of rotifers? im about 70 miles from any lfs. anyone selling? or is it best just to go through a website like reed?

you could get the cysts from brineshrimp direct.

the cysts come in like a 1 inch bottle and you place them in a bucket and given their lifecycle they will quickly hatch/spawn and reproduce with the right conditions.

If you need the live stuff asap - then you may want to order from reed as they sell bags of the live stuff for retail.

is there anything different that id need if i was to start with the cysts instead of the live culture? is one way easier than the other?

live is much easier but it also costs more. Using cycts will take up to a month to get going. Using live, you could have a harvestable culture in a few days.

If you order from Reed, check your local fish store that carries Reed's products and you may be able to talk them into ordering it for you and give you a break on the shipping charges.
