Any update on the refugium and the acrylic boxes for the mud. Sounds like a good way to contain the mud and make it easier to change. Did you also end up using the ceramic blocks in the sump too?

What's up guys? Well I hate to say it but ecotech has really let me down. Both Vectra L1 broke down one at a time. No reply from ecotech. My buddy is trying to get everything resolved. 9 months of service time between two L1 pumps? Anyhow I ordered a 8500 gph reeflo tiger shark external pump to handle the job of two Vectras and change. Had no choice but to buy a third Vectra as no one could get me the pump in time. Honestly I thought ecotech products would be more dependable. Prior to this I had to exchange a Radion amd replace the Vortech MP 60 power supply. Neptunes one link crapped out on me as well.

Really interesting to me how Ecotech can continue to remain popular and people still buy so much of their over priced stuff when they have proven over the years that they cannot consistently put out a reliable product. Ever since the first MP 40 came out there have always been issues.

I haven't been around in quite awhile as it is our busy season. I checked in this morning and first saw this. My Vectra L1 crapped out as well. I replaced it with an Abyzz 400 which is fantastic. Yes it is expensive but I wont go back.
Yea just going to go external and crank it up. Unfortunate really

As you know the Vectra is a very quiet pump and once you get used to that you don't want to give up the peace and quiet of a good DC pump. The Abyzz can be used dry or wet as well. Mine is running as an internal.
I went up in size to the 400 as I my flow goes from my sump, seven feet up the wall through a UV and then out to the garage and through a chiller. From there it goes back into the house through the basement and then up under the tank into the returns. Even then it only runs at 80%. It was the only DC pump that could handle the head pressure I had. I am also a big fan of the Dragon pumps as well as I use one on my skimmer. I still have a Vectra M1 which feeds three reactors and have not had any issues with it. I think the problem is with the L1's. I just wasn't going to take any chances on the heart of my system.
I did consider the abyzz for all the reasons you listed. The price tag though is a deal breaker for me. Once the tank is all repiped I will be adding soundproofing to the interior of the sump area.

Hey guys hope everyone in Irmas path is ok. Got internet up yesterday. Going on 6 days no power and things aren't looking good . Lost a few fish but lucky to have ducked that monster. I know too many others were not fortunate. If anyone has clothes or supplies that they can donate the people of the keys and all over Florida really could use it. Tank has lost a lot of inhabitants :-( can't say I am happy about that but considering what happened it was to be expected
