Status of the Vertex Cerebra Controller

Team RC
I'm catching up on things after being away for a while and have been trying to figure out what's been going on with the Vertex Cerebra. As I understand it:

  • Vertex began developing the Cerebra several years ago (2010?)
  • Last June they announced it's release as a beta product and sold a limited number of units that were shipped in July.
  • The support forum is closed but in general, reports are of good service
  • After it's release there was some controversy regarding the design of the power bar. I seem to remember Vertex swapping out the wiring harnesses and having the devices independently tested, but I can't find those reports right now.
  • Early this year, Vertex announced that they will be releasing new version in May with an updated version of the Android OS as well as redesigned power bars and display/control units.
    • In the announcement they indicated the new units would be smaller to address user concerns with he size of the original units.
  • All current beta owners can have them exchanged for the new version for free.
  • There was apparently some sort of falling out between Vertex and a technical company they were working with to develop the cerebra with the two parting ways and Vertex continuing development of the Cerebra on its own

Is this accurate?

Thats my understanding. Vertex has been kind of quiet.

LOL - yes, people are... shall we say passionate about controllers?

I tried very hard to keep my summary as objective as possible. There are plenty of opinions to be had in the existing threads. :)

I had the Cerebra. I now have a Neptune controler. All I'm going to say is the Neptune works. I couldn't be happier with it.

Sounds like Neptune Apex is the way to go. Cerebra is dead:sleep:

Well yes, currently, since the Cerebra is unavailable. We'll have to wait and see when/what Vertex releases for its update.

For the time being Apex is obviously the most popular/common but the others I'm aware of are:
- GHL Profilux
- Digital Aquatics ReefKeeper
- ReefAngel
- DIY Arduino/Raspberry Pi

I think there was another Austrian/swiss company that makes one, but I can't remember it right now.

I get the tech geeks who like to play with new toys and run them ALONGSIDE established tech.
But IMO, anyone willing to run a Cerebra or any brand new controller, and still in BETA, as their sole brain of the tank, is out of their dang mind. :p

I'd like to agree but my month old Apex was clicking incessantly when I came back from vacation. 90+ degrees and you can imagine the smell in my modest apt. Base unit and eb8 were switched, along with my faith in their reliability. I wish I weren't the outlier. My Cerebra has been in test mode next to my tank for a while now with zero hiccups. Beta or not, it works.

See this is what trashes a good thread. His question was on the Vertex Cerebra Controller and that is all, not which controller is better. This is the stuff that trashes these threads. I am interested in his questions because I am very interested in the new controller they have coming out myself.

Nothing was mentioned of other controllers. why do people have to trash good threads.

I have not heard anything myself but maybe someone with a unit knows more and they were informed?

Are you a member of the Cerebra owners forum? That's where all the info is relayed to the Cerebra owners, If your not, I would join. Otherwise how is Vertex supposed to know you have one?
