Steinhart aquarium photos

I went up to San Francisco earlier this week to visit the newly-opened California Academy of Sciences building, which has the Steinhart aquarium in it. I took a bunch of pictures while I was up there, and thought I'd share them here.

These were taken with my old Canon Digital Rebel (300D), mostly with an EF 28-135mm lens. I took the wide shots with an EF-S 10-22. Now I'm thinking maybe I should go back, and bring my 5D and an L lens or two...

The entire gallery is here, although it contains more non-aquaria photos than aquaria photos.

thanks for posting your photos- your gallery is nice. You did a good job of documenting much of your day it seems. Im tempted to get up there and check that place out.

Very nice, thank you for sharing. I know I need to head up there soon, now you're just teasing me with photos. I've always loved that place. Your pictures are nice and crisp, and often well exposed. Again, thank you for sharing.

Thanks, folks. If you're going to head up there, since its so new I'd suggest going on a weekday if you can. I went on a weekday, and there seemed to be weekend crowds there - the real weekends are probably worse.

The whole experience of visiting the California Academy of Sciences building was impressive and a pleasure. It was not just the aquarium, although that was impressive all by itself. The combination of glass and space and ideas and water and living things - it was a pleasant place to be in.

They put the entire aquarium below ground - that is, below the ground floor. Which I thought was a good idea, since all that water needs a lot of support, and windows (to outside the building) are a burden rather than a benefit. Is this becoming common in public aquariums?

As for the Georgia Aquarium, I have no idea which is more impressive. I've never seen that one.
