Step 1: Admit you have a Problem.

Pandora - Me too. Your right though, you can't expect anyone to change. My funniest was when he got me roses. I found out they were $80 to deliver to my work, so I felt bad. I told him it was sweet, but next time I'd prefer a weedwacker. What do you know, he did as I requested.

He saw the thread, couldn't resist tellng him he's a pain in my wrasse.

Now rather then the look of distain and rolling of the eyes, I got a "I don't care what you do with your money." :D :D :D

Alright, so now I have two questions before I get him.

First, is 3 wrasses in a 90 worth a try? I had another post about 2 wrasses together and they seem good together. A little chase the first night, but no fin nipping or anything of the sort for a few days. Is agression something that is more often seen when during first week or so of adding the fish? I'd know I want to do it soon before anyone gets too established, but prefer to put it in this tank as I already plan on it being shrimp and crab free. I wouldn't want any other fish in the tank besides possibly a lawnmower blenny and it also has a 70/75 gal. sump/refugium.

Second, if it didn't work with the other wrasses and I removed the shrimp from my 125, would this fish be ok with small peaceful fish? I have a green banded goby, yellow clown goby, rainford's goby, yasha hase goby ~ Umm, yes, I had a goby phase as well ~ purple firefish, canary blenny, and scooter blenny in the 125. Would that work if the 90 didn't?

Step 1--Admit you're whipped:D

Look, I'm a big supporter of feminism, so I'm not the type who believes a man should have the last word in everything, but for pete's sake, if you can't enjoy your hobby without having to ask permission, isn't life pretty much over:confused:

I'll pray for you;)

D'oh!

Step 1 (for me)--read the entire post before responding, as you might mistake the sex of the person posting.

That being said, the same goes for women--don't ask permission, it's your freaking hobby!

Finnegan I am printing out your response and tacking it to my guy's pillow tonight. We agreed to a twenty-gallon-rule (as in, nothing over that, and actually no more than three tanks) when we moved in together and now I want more, more more!!!!! :D

Are the wrasses you have now big? Mysteries dont get very big... Make sure you have an alternate plan if something does happen. It would suck to lose a nice fish like that :(

if worse comes to worse you can bring him back if your other wrasses dont like him. They dont look the same (generally speaking) so i dont think there would be a problem.. keep the lights out for atleast a day. :)

Well, I just think it's a shame that men in our day cannot purchase anything of value for themselves without getting heck to pay from the "better?" half. As long as the $ is spent on her, she'll not complain. I bet if you tacked a zero onto the end of the price of that wrasse, prestochango'ed it into a diamond, you'd be a hero for bringing it home.

Bhaaaa! Purchase your wrasse! If a significant other has any issues with your passions, you better recognize the tip of the iceburg. If someone really cares for you, they'll support your passions/obsessions. Life is too short for a ball and chain!

ROFL, this is why I love my wife (not the only reason)... We have our shared account for expenses (EX: house, utilities, and what not) past that we both have multi savings and as long as the needs are met then we can do anything we want with "our" left over money... One reason why I am in the process of setting up my 600gal system...

No, my other wrasses aren't too big. My coris venusta is about 4-5" and he shouldn't get much bigger (only get to 6" based on what I found - smaller of the coris genus). My newer wrasse is a female Halechores Melanarus. She's much smaller at 2-3" and the coris took very well to her. The mystery wrasse is about 2-3" as well. I'm going to try it. Tomorrow I'll put a hold on the fish and pick it up Sunday. I want to see if they will take some of my frags to get the price down a bit.

Are you kidding about bringing it back? I couldn't possibly let that fish go once I have it in my house. I'll just have to setup another tank for it if it comes down to it. I did find an article indicating that they can eat small gobies, so it couldn't go into my 125 even if I removed the shrimp.

LOL. First of all, that was posted by a reefer of the female presuation (or so Id assume by the name). Secondly, Im guessing your wife must keep that whip close'n'handy, huh?

Just remember, when in doubt, say, "Hunny, I could spend all the money in the world on this reef tank, but I'll never be as beautiful as you".

That should keep the lashings to a minimum for a couple hours. Or possibly til valentines day, if your lucky.

happy reefin'

If all else fails, at least if you sleep on the couch you can get up in the middle of the night with the flashlight and check out the tank... snores less too.... :)

i've never heard of mysteries eating small FISH... Have you ever read that on RC?? I dont think ive ever come across that.. lol There is no way a mystery would eat a small goby... they are invert eaters, not fish :)!

I wouldn't want to bring it back either.. lol

I put a hold on the fish and going to pick it up saturday or sunday after I do a water change on the QT. I'll post some pics once I get it. :D :D :D

You all aren't really helpful in my recovery. But, thanks for the all the responses.

Now, for that flame wrasse they have at the LFS. Ummmmmmmm . . . it is beautiful!

it's your $, you can spend it on whatever you want. if my hubby were to dictate how i spent my $ he wouldn't be my hubby any longer ;) however, if say, you are in dire financial straits & bills are due that you both owe (like rent, car payment, you know stuff like that) then maybe you could put off the purchase of a mystery wrasse for awhile longer.

I have become fasinated by the only reef safe triggers I know Niger (I love mine it's my favorit), Sargassum (What I want to get next), Pink Tailed (Amazing color), Blue Throat (Nice and some what cool) but the one I want most of all a Crosshatch Trigger extremely rare and expensive I know I'm going to get one before time runs out.

Ahh, you understand what I'm going through dwhit. I like the blue-lined, queen, and undulate triggers myself. I inadvertently got into this hobby cause of triggers. My fiance' loved them, got a setup, he failed, he gave up, I took over. Its now more then 2 yrs later and he's finally getting the taste for it again. Good luck in getting your future cross-hatch, seem much more rare then the mystery wrasse.

I know I talked to my boss about it today man if I could work for free for 2 weeks and get one I would, but my tank just crashed so i'm waiting to start it up again tomorrow

I've actually seen quite a few of the mystery wrasses lately. Is there a chance that they're "rare" in the same way that acanthastrea lordhowensis were for a while--ie, very common in the wild but just making their debut in the hobby?

Not exactly sure, but I did read this in the article I linked to: "It is a resident of deep reef walls and slopes, having been reported at depths of 20 to 58 m (65 to 189 ft.). (This is one reason that this species commands a higher price than the others of the genus that make it into the aquarium trade!)"

Just for an update, here's a pic of burton, my mystery wrasse:

Yes, I have to get a new camera, but you get the idea. He looks much nicer in person. He is getting along well with the other fish.

Now I'm thinking one, possibly two, more fish for this tank after I had 45 lbs of live rock. Any suggestions? As mentioned above, I have a mystery wrasse, hoeven's wrasse, elegant wrasse, and midas blenny.
