i have to reseal a 55 gallon tank and was wondering if some one has a step by step way of resealing a tank. pics would be great. i sure i could do it but i would like to do it once (the right way) lol thanks for your help Andrew
best thing to do is remove all the silicone, take the tank completely apart, make sure the glass (especially the area where silicone will go) is really clean by using acetone or alcohol, then put it back together
yes you should apply silicone between the panels and then use clamps to hold the glass together. silicone will squeeze out both sides but the silicone on the outside can be cleaned up with a razor. I run a single bead of silicone inside the tank between each panel and then use the back of a plastic spoon to smooth the silicone out and into the joint. You can use tape to make the straight edges or you can clean up your silicone job after it dries with a razor.
