Still at a lost with my ammonia problem

My freshly made salt water reads 0.2 ammonia with my test kits but i dont see a reason why i should have ammonia in my new salt water. I cant see the water being contaminated from ammonia in the air cause i make my rodi water close by and it reads 0 ppm ammonia but once i add the salt it reads 0.2 i cant figure out where it comes from. My ammonia badge in my quarantine reads 0.05 but my fish are breathing quickly and they come out every now and then and swim but they like to sit in the pvc and swim in place.

i used a API test kit and a red sea test kit both read 0.2 sadly. Even if it was a false read why one of my blue damsels be breathing heavy

What kind of salt? Try a new bucket of salt?

i ordered the 200 gallon mix of instant ocean and i used most of that for my newly set up 150 gallon DT but that salt showed 0.2 ammonia as well i just got a 160 gallon bucket of instant ocean salt from BRS and its still showing 0.2 reading

yea salt will have a little bit of ammonia, Its not a big deal. its nothing a properly cycled aquarium cant handle...

sorry i didnt specify i was trying to do a cycle-less quarantine i guess im gunna hope these guys make it through 2 more weeks and then ill use DT water from now on. I was trying to do the quarantine and the cycle on my DT at same time

Is the API kit not a good kit?. Thats what I have. Sometimes I feel like it is not giving me an accurate reading. Or I am just not reading the color correctly. My wife and I are always debating what the color is.

the API kits are known to give false positives i believe

Are you using EXACTLY the same equipment to draw water n test? Same pipette/syringe? Same container?

yea i test in the same API tube, when im done testing i dump it and rinse it with RODI. I use the same pipette, maybe i should clean the pipette with something?
