Still getting electrocuted

Ok so I think I had a post about this long ago and I never really stick my hands in my tank but today i did and the tip of my fingers like right in my nail is getting electrocuted and it hurts a lot. Last time the conclusion was that my grounding probe was broken so get a new one well I did and I'm still having this problem. I tested it with an outlet tested and it says the ground is good and my dads an electrician and can assure me that it is a good and working outlet. how can 2 grounding probes in a row be not working and we even tested it with a meter and i don't remember the number but it showed the ohms going through and it beeped meaning that its a good wire. could the shock be from like a very high amount of electricity and the grounding probe not being able to remove it all or what other possibilities can it be?

Do you have a heater insire the tank??? Or submerisable powerheads??? Sounds like something is broken inside the tank

Grounding probe aren't suppose to just stop electricity from electrocuting you or the tank inhabitants. A better way to go about this is to begin to unplug the items in you tank one by one. When the tingling sensation goes away you have found what is creating the issue. You tank inhabitants will thank you with better growth and color.

well I'll try doing this tomorrow but I remember last time it was the heater and i've had like 5 heaters because of this problem, they all do this problem with the electricity and this one is about 2 months old. I've tried both titanium and glass and every time i do the unplug test it ends up being the heater. so ill do that tomorrow just to make sure of it and after that what heater would you recommend that doesn't release stray electricity.

If it is the heater I would contact the manufacture and ask for a replacement or refund. What type of heater do you have?

If you take a meter and put one probe in the water and the other in the ground of recp and start unplugging stuff that will keep you from having to hand test the water plus that will test how much current is going into your tank.

sent from my hand held computer

The hand test is the most convenient when you dont have a meter around. However since their dad is an electrician the meter would also work.

Yep, thanks thats exactly what I was thinking of doing tomorrow because i unplugged everything and shut the circuit breaker off and i still felt something but i don't know if that was just my imagination from feeling so long all i know is that i'm not sticking my hand back in that water after what just happened. i unplugged the ground and went right in to stick my hand in and i felt like i stuck it in an outlet it was soooo bad it went right up my arm so the probe is working to some extent. ill let you guys know what happeneds when I try with the meter tomorrow.

Excellent process. Of course, I too bet on the heater.

oh and its a hydor heater. my last one was a finex and i got this one at the lfs just because i needed one quickly. i know koralias are good but what about hydor's heaters are they known for doing this.

A small cut or hang nail will feel just like getting shocked. Get a container of water from your aquarium and slowly stick your hand in it like you do in your aquarium. I though I was getting shocked but it was cuts on my fingers.

yea it only happends on a part my finger that is cut but thats because its the only sensitive enough part to get electrocuted and trust me its not just like a salt sting is tingles my finger and just makes me pull it out. i was actually fragging when i felt it today so the separate container of water i didn't feel anything at all and once i was putting the frags into the dt i got electrocuted again and it happened every time. for some reason its only if i dip the tip of my finger in. if i just put my whole hand in i cant feel anything and even if i put just the whole finger in i cant feel anything its only at the very surface of the water and thats whats so weird.

Your having current leaking somewhere. Narrow it down by unpluging things one at a time. Could be a wet power strip as well.

As a electrician it always bothers me when people say they've been electrocuted as this means death by electricity.

Thats EXACTLY what I was going to say....I even went through the aformentioned process of unplugging things one by one and the sensation did not go away; my conclusion is the same as yours
But OTOH;
I'd also add that cut's, cuticles, ect can also "detect" current a lil easier anyway (usually its the heater)

I am guessing your tank is protected by a GFCI? You made mention that you turned everything off and you still felt something? I had a client who had the same problem with only two volts in his tank/sump and he was getting shocked. The problem was the ground at his service was not very good and the service was using his tank via the grounding probe as a grounding means. So he was putting amperage into his tank because of poor grounding because it was a drought and the fact his soil was very rocky. I always tell people in a drought you need to water around your ground rod.

ITS THE APEX???? how could this be. i disconnected everything from the EB8 and its the only thing thats in the wall. so every plug is disconnected except for this apex and its not the EB8 because my last one broke and I just got this one in the mail today so its like the base unit or something but its mounted on the stand and the only thing in the water is the temperature probe.

Ok well problem is solved. my dad told me to run a wire from the ground port on the IO box to the ground port in the outlet so I connected it from the IO box to the ground probe wire that is like for accessories and so far so good, but does anyone know how many amps go through that thing because it was a really really bad shock when i stuck my hand in. i was dub enough to hold the ground wire at the same time i put my hand in an it felt like sticking my hand directly in the outlet it was really bad.
