Stingrays

Does anyone have experience with stingrays? I am thinking of setting up a 225g and my wife would like to have stingrays, and maybe some kind of shark tank to call her own.

best bet would be to check into the aggressive forum. all i really know is that for a shark or stingray you will want at least a 3' wide tank for them to be able to turn around in.

Thanks, I was unsure where I should post this kind of thread. The tank is already bought and it is 30" deep, 24" high and 6' long.

Check in the aggressive and fowlr forum. You will mainly be told your tank is way too small and isn't long enough to host a ray and shark.

Stingrays are tough, they need alot of room and alot of sand, because they like to sleep beneath the sand and it makes them feel more secure. I would suggest finding some info on them in fish keeping books.

Thanks kau_cinta_ku,
I will have my wife look into the book. I am the set-up guy and and cleaner of the tanks in the house. She is the book smarts one!

You'll definitely need a bigger tank to keep it content. I had taken over an account that had a California Round Ray, a relatively small (~8" diameter) cool-water species, in a 300g tank, and it still would do circles around the tank looking for more room. In short, unless you have the funds and time for an exceptionally large tank, just hang up pictures of stingrays around the house and leave the specimens in the ocean.
