stinky DI filter???

I have a small AP deionizing filter that I have used about 5 times. The last time used it I noticed a rotten fishy fart smell comming from the filtered water. Needless to say I did not use the water. I just went and bought catalina water from LFS.

Anyone else have this problem?

you said you have only used it 5 times,how much water through it each time? at least from what i have have learned(at least with a rodi unit) you are supposed to run water through for an xx amount of time before using the water,just my thoughts.

Happened to me twice. I guess it's a bad batch of DI resin. So far, I have used up 3 DI resins since the last stink. It's a smell you won't soon forget. Interestingly, both resins were spectrapure brands. I have never used that brand again and haven't had anymore of that unimaginable stink. Oh yeah, those two spectrapures were relatively new. I remember the last one began to go bad after the fifth gallon. :eek2:

Exhausted DI resin will have a smell no matter whose resin it is. Tap Water Filters are only good for maybe 25 to 50 gallons of water tops at best so it is probably exhausted already. A TDS meter will confirm this.
