:idea:hey all-
looking for stocking suggestions for a 150g mixed reef, barebottom.
the kicker is, i want -0- large (or medium) fish.
i want to stock with lots of small fish. i'm looking for as much movement and color as possible. cromis, gobies, cardinals, anthias, etc.

the smaller and more, the better! any suggestions would be appreciated,
thanks

I keep hearing that black bar chromis are a little less aggressive than the blue/green variety. Love the way the fish look, hate how mean they are towards each other.
It's worth some time to just pour through liveaquaria's variety and check out the possibilities. I want to do the same thing with the tank that's soon to go back up.
IMO lots of small fish > a few big fish- but you gotta have 1 medium/big keeper of the house :)

What do you consider small? Even most anthias get at least 3".

What sort of skimmer and other filtration do you have, and what sort of husbandry/water change schedule are you planning? Lots of small planktivores can quickly add up to LOTS of fish poop :)

skimmer is rated for 200g. will be running a fuge with chaeto. nornmal wc's (like 20% every two weeks)
i would consider any "narrow body" fish small (like anthias) i wouldn't consider a broad body fish small (like flame angel) probably the largest broad body would be a cardinal (like the bangaii)
i'm thinking about 20-30 small fish, rather than a couple large and 5-6 small.
for example
3 anthias, 2 cardinals (bangii) 2 cardinals (longspine)2-3 flasher wrasse, 2 chromis, 1 rainsford goby, 1 dracula goby, 2 firefish, 2 neon goby, 2 platinum clowns (i know, pretty big!)1 hawkfish, 1 royal gramma, 2 (greenbanded goby), 1 possum wrasse (if i can find it!)

and???or???

Chromis are such a pain. I started with 12 in a 29g QT and every time I turn around another is dead and missing its jaw. I don't know if these buggers are going to make it out of QT without killing each other. Down to 5.
