I bought a 56...yes 56 not 55 but 56 gallon column tank the dimensions are: 30" Wide x 18" Deep x 24" High
I plan on using about 3 inches of sand and will have 70lbs of Key Largo rock from http://www.marcorocks.com. My lighting at the moment is FluvalSea LED reef lighting, and I threw in an actinic t8 bulb in the stock housing (it made the lighting look a little better we'll see how it goes once I've got it aquascaped) I want to add a few zoas, mushrooms and soft corals in and possibly get into some LPS down the road once I upgrade my lighting.
Filtration, I'm running sumpless just because of space & weight issues (I'm on the 3rd floor of an apartment) I opted for a fluval canister and will be getting a HOB octopus skimmer, the canister will go into my son's tank once mine is settled so it's not a permanent thing, even though I know/seen some reef tanks do fine with one.
I also have 2 korlia 450s on the way.
I will be cycling my tank as soon as my rock arrives in about 4-5 days.
What kind of stocking options do you think will work out?
I kind of have my heart set on a flame angel and moving it into a bigger tank once I move and an able to get a larger tank (should be moving in about a year and shifting almost everything into the larger tank). Since angels are free swimmers it should be fine in this tank for now as long as it's added last and there's a good amount of swimming space, right? I plan on placing my rock mainly in the center for the fish to swim around and through.
would this be okay with a flame angel, again this angel won't be in the tank forever, firefish, jawfish, 3-4 blue chromis OR 3-4 spotted cardinals, a yellow stripe clown, carpenter wrasse, and a dottyback along with a few inverts...maybe a tile sea star and also my CUC...which I haven't even thought of just yet, any suggestions for a 3 inch sandbed?
Is the bioload going to be too much? The type of aquascaping I have in mind has a lot of hiding places but enough swim space
I figure this MIGHT work because most of the fish swim at different levels, and there is a lot of vertical space.
