I recently set up a 20 gallon tank with the intention to turn it into a reef tank. It is fully cycled and I want to add a fish. I only want to have one fish in the tank, and want it to be colorful eat some algae. I was thinking maybe a damsel, what other fish are good?

a damsel in a 20g tank will terrorize any other fish you add. try going to liveaquaria.com as they have a nano section that lists lots of fish appropriate for a 20g tank.

How about a fridmani dottyback, although not much of an algae eater?
