Stocking Ideas - 29g Biocube

Hi there,

I am returning to the hobby after about 5 years. My previous tank was a 29g long, and I enjoyed it quite a bit! I had a mated ocellaris clown pair, royal gramma, yellow watchman goby, misc CUC, mushrooms, and ricordias.

This time around I went with the biocube... I want to add more corals and from what I've been researching, I should be able to do softies and maybe a couple LPS. Any suggestions on good starters? I was thinking of starting with a toadstool that I could make the "center" of attraction and some ricordias & mushrooms.

Also, I'm thinking about what fish I would like to add. There are so many that I'm interested in, and I need help deciding! I'd like fish that will inhabit different parts of the aquarium, that have striking color and are fun to watch. I've already got my heart set on yellow clown gobies... now for the rest. My wish list is way too long, so help me out! Tomato clowns, assorted damsels, purple dottyback, neon dottyback, gold head sleeper goby, blue neon goby... help!

I know I need to go slowly, but I'd like some ideas on corals and fish I can start researching while my tank finishes cycling.

Thanks!

this is what i have in my 29 bicube

1 flame angel
2 clowns occelaris
one green mandarin
one yellow headed jaw fish
one flame hawk
one peppermint shrimp and one cleaner shrimp

flame angels is the center piece fish id say .. but they are notoriously known for nipping at corals :D im lucky mine doesnt

I like the blue neon goby as you can get them tank-raised, and I think even your purple dottyback and clown gobies can be found tank raised as well if you're patient? I think that's a good combo of colors.

I'd stay away from Damsels, I always found them too bossy around the tank.

Ok... so no damsels.

Do you think a small tomato clown and a purple dottyback would do ok without too much fighting?

Then I'd also put in a couple yellow clown gobies, a neon blue goby, and a golden head sleeper goby.

For corals I'm looking at putting in several colors of ricordias and zoas, a toadstool leather, and down the road trying some LPS... doughnut, candycane, duncan... and if that all goes well I might try a bubble, fox, and/or hammer.

Has anyone with a biocube had experience with any of those LPS corals? I just have the regular set-up, not the HQI.

That should be fine... People say you can't have this or that but it's not necessarily accurate. It just depends on your luck. I had 3 angel fish and not 1 touch a coral where as other have the opposite luck. I had a oc clown with a clarki with no problems at all.
