Stocking List for 120

I'm not sure if I would buy from a LFS that had all it's tanks on the same system... The few stores I visit always split there systems up, to protect crossover contamination...

My Tangs don't fight and never have. I think some of the problem lies in to many fish in a small system.. Any one else out there with a large system, with Tangs??

I'm in the process of setting up a gallery, I posted some pictures about 6-7 months ago. But didn't like the way they turned out.. Large tanks can be expensive and time consuming. I noticed you are FOWLR, that should cut your costs some. The monthly costs of my 500 SPS are around 1.00 per gallon. That's just to operate the system.. Doesn't include livestock, although it's full and I'm looking at a 1,200 down the road.. Will take years of planning, and saving my pennies....

I'm not sure if the LFS marine tanks are all on the same system. I'll check with them. I did see a maroon clown that was in really bad shape and a dead blue throat trigger on the bottom of a tank...

I think its unrealistic to expect a LFS to run their tanks separately. It would require a lot of space and equipment and etc.

I reaquascaped over the weekend and it caused a small ammonia spike and now my nitrates are high as well. I'm going to wait a couple more days before I add inverts as most are sensitive to nitrates I beleive.

ReefWreak - How do your angels get along? I was told that more that 1 dwarf in a system will cause fighting.

Any suggestions on a second tang?

Can anyone who've had a multiple tang "small" tank post how long they've had those tanks. I've learned, from experience, that tangs can live up to 7 years. anyone else with ages of their tangs?

JoeMomma, My angels do chase eachother around now and then, but I think the biggest rivalry is with the dwarf angels and the pair of Neon Dottybacks, but the Dottybacks chase everyone blue around (they almost killed the 6line when I added him).

The two dwarf angels get along okay though. I just would not keep them together in a tank smaller than 120 or 4ft long.

kydsexy, I've got a dejardini sailfin who I have had for 2 years and was owned by the previous owner for another 2 or 3 years, so he's at least 4 years old and as healty, fat, and happy as an ox, and he's really playful and eats out of my hand to boot.

#1 Royal gramma basslet
#2 goby/pistol shrimp is ok but I don't know if it will get along with the lawnmower blenny..maybe if they are both very young when you add them.
#3 Ocellaris pair
#4 lawnmower blenny but only if you have a lot of algae on your glass and rocks. Never add it if your tank is too clean.
#5 Have you considered any kind of bristle tooth tang insted of the hippo tang? try adding a tang a year after the tank is set up.
#6 green mandarin after the tank has swarms of pods. I mean to the point were your rocks and sand look like they are moving.
#7 Blue Throat Trigger only if you plan on not having a reef
#8 flame angel..always add this one last and not an adult one because they might already get in the habit of thinking corals are a tasty treat.

As for your fire shrimp a lot of people say it will tolerate its mate, others of its own kind will be chased away or harassed. But I have seen several in one tank before. Like in a aquarium at seaworld. Alot of people say that its best to go with snails than hermit crabs. I kinda agree with them I only have one red scarlet hermit crab he tends to annoy my soft corals by climbing all over them pinching them to get a good grip.

Oh dottybacks..., aren't they from the same family as damsels.

This is where things get confusing as far as introducing fish. I hear that triggers should be added last, tangs should be added last, angels should be added last. Which is the way to go? This hobby is just so rich with reefers' experiences!

I would like to go reef at some point and heard that the bluethroat is the safest (and affordable) trigger.

No, dotty backs are in the dotty back family. Add the tang before you add the angel even more so if you are wanting to add a flame angel (no matter what always add the flame angel last.) I don't know much about the trigger fish. Never had one..if it says reef caution I stay away from them (I didn't know this about coral beauty angels but my lfs owner said she should be safe as long as you feed her enough.) You might have no trouble with a trigger if you get it young and train it to eat only the food you provide it. I have a coral beauty angel in my 120 she is well behaved and eats anything I give her.
