Stocking my 40g

Tank isn't up yet. I'm just in the planning stages still, but my reef club is putting it together to donate to my high school. I'm a junior right now, so I'd like a pretty tank that's not unbearably hard to teach someone to take care of it when I leave.

40 gallon breeder (custom hood and stand)
20 gallon long sump
VHO lighting

stock list:
2 clowns (already have them in another tank)
diamond goby
flame angel
sixline wrasse
royal gramma
Blue damsel (already have it in another tank, it's not overly aggressive)

I'd also like to add a blenny of some sort to help with algea, but I don't like the look of the lawnmowers. Is there another one that eats HA that isn't so...bland?

What type of clowns?

I personally would skip the diamond goby, IME, they tend to starve after clearing out the sandbed, even if they are eating prepared foods.

The six line will get a bit aggressive, and they are jumpers -- so keep that in mind.

I'm not so sure I'd put the flame angel in there, 3' isn't much swimming room. I'd suggest you stick to the clowns, gramma, damsel(if you really want it in there), and a pair of lyretail anthias.

IMO, a flame would be fine in a 3 foot tank. The dwarfs in my 3 foot 58 have been doing fine.

I agree with Toddrtrex a flame angel would be fine in a 3' tank. I also agree that the diamond goby will die after all his food runs out despite taking prepared foods. With that particular goby i think they need a large tank and be alone to be able to survive long term. Thanks Tony

The Flame should be fine. However be careful with the sixline. They can be very aggressive. I would add it to the tank last. I might harass smaller fish. It will probable bother any new less aggressive fish. Don't keep with any other wrasses. This is my experience especially in a tank that size.
