Stocking question.

I have a 29g (30lX18hX13w) with a 20g sump with around 40lbs of rock. I have a 6 line now and i want a Anthia & a true perc. I would like to know how many fish in adition to the listed can i add?

Well I all go buy about 8 gallons Per fish.

But you could push six.If you keep your tank well maintained and skimmed.

On a side note clowns are best in pairs.

You could do a pair of clowns, but the only anthias I would recommend for that size tank would be a fathead anthias. Other anthias like to school and do well in large groups, plus they get larger. The fathead isn't as active, stays smaller, and doesn't need to be kept in groups.

I like the fathead but i planned for a Dispar. I was reading on live aquaria and they have one can be house in a 25g. That was my what i based my original plans from. I will look into the fathead.

Could i do a pair of clowns & dispar and still have room for one more? Maybe a bottom dwelling fish?

See you are looking at it wrong, yeah you can keep a dispar in a 25 gallon, but live aquaria is a retailer and they want you to buy a fish. They also say that it "thrives" in a 125 gallon in a group like I said earlier, other anthias are more active and do best in groups. They are active fish.

I would go with the 6-line, a pair of clowns, one more "swimming" fish, and a bottom dweller (my personal recommendation would be a goby/shrimp combo). I agree with avoiding the anthia, although I normally don't go with the concept of banning certain fish from certain sized tanks. It just seems to me that anthias really utilize all of the tank space and love having tons of room.

Thanks guys i ordered 2 clowns lastnight... will they be fine together if they are not a "paired" couple?

A pair of clownfish, even the least aggressive, once sexally mature, will dominate a nano. A sixline is a very aggressive fish, especially in a small tank.

Think about the natural habitat of anthias, riding the current over the reef, and you my reconsider the advisability of anthias in a nano.

If they have already sexually matured, you must have a male and female or two males. If you have two females, you will have one clown.

Yeah i scrapped the idea....

Depends on where you bought the clowns from, if its someone reputable they will likely send you a small clown and a medium to large. The females are always larger and the males stay small, i had a maroon pair where the female was pushing 5 inches but the male never got past 2. If your shipment comes in with 2 small clowns then you have a chance at pairing them, just keep an eye on them. On the other hand if you get 2 large fish they are probably females and you will have a battle royale brewing, just let us know what comes in.
