stocking question

I just read the thread about the trigger and lionfish

I have a niger trigger (4in) who lives with a lunar wrasse (6inch) and a sgt major damsel (who I can never catch and despise).

In another tank is a russels lionfish (or military turkey fish).

The wrasse has only attacked fish who are brackish oddly....I guess he doesn't like outsiders.....but never gone after a pure marine fish. Same with the trigger

Is it too risky to add the lionfish?

They all are in large tanks already, so I don't care if they aren't compatible...ill just keep em where they're at.

Another question....
Has anybody had any luck with a coral banded shrimp with either of these fish? He is also in his own tank with fish who get along with the wrasse and trigger...just seperated the 2 from the shrimp tank b4 I added him...he cleans all my fishies

I had a blueline trigger and a volitan lionfish in the same 120g tank for 2 years. The blueline was about 3" and The lion was about 5" when I first got them, and blueline was about 6" and the lion was almost 11" when I sold them back to the store. This was about 5 years ago when I lived in Virginia, but I had to sell them when I moved back to Iowa after getting out of the Navy. That was one of my favorite setups and they got along great.

That's what im going for, aside from the slightly different species and the lunar wrasse.

What's your take on the wrasse compatibility?

I am not sure on the wrasse situation. I have a Melanaris wrasse (spelling???) now with a black trigger and they get along great, but that is the extent of my wrasse experience.

I hear horror stories of lunar wrasses growing up to be demons...I've only experienced slight aggression towards brackish type fish. He eats mollies, and he hates when the green spotted puffer would be social, forcing him to hide all the time...he is now with his other puffer pal in another tank.

Im going to migrate my bite size fish and valuable inverts to my qt and turn it into a mini reef...buy a new tank for qt. Throw the trigger and the lionfish together...see how that goes.
The lionfish arrived today and get this...I am missing a molly :) he gobbled him up within 5 minutes of acclimation.

I might just trade my wrasse for something else...even though he's like a puppy.

I've never been crazy about Thalassoma sp. wrasses and lions, esp. if the wrasse is already in residence. Way back when, I had a banana wrasse severely harass a lionfish, so the wrasse was taken to the LFS.

The niger will be a hit or miss thing. Technically, it should be OK, but nigers seem to be pretty variable in temperament.
