Stocking suggestions

After a bit of input from another thread I've made a couple of changes to my stocking plan. I'm looking for some other input as to order and compatibility.

I can really only make space for a 10gal QT tank. I'm thinking that would really only accommodate 2, maybe 3 fish for a month at a time. Would 4 be too many?

This is going in a 75 gal with 20 gal sump

1 Blue Chromis (2). Specifically BLUE. Not blue/green.
2 Black Clownfish ORA (2)
3 Bangaii Cardinal (2) ORA
4 Royal Gramma -or- Bibolor Dottyback ORA
5 Six Line Wrasse
6 Bartlett's Anthias
7 Black Sailfin Blenny -or- other ORA available Blenny
8 Watchman Goby ORA /Pistol shrimp pair
9 One Spot Foxface -OR- Tomini Tang

As much as I like 6 line wrasses, every one I've owned eventually went rouge and started killing its tankmates.

IMO it looks good except the foxface. My foxy is 7" long and when I had him housed in a temporary 55 I could tell s/he was not happy.

the only fish I can give much input in are the Six line and thet Gramma. You may consider adding them later on but should not have issues. I had a Gramma that hatted gobies that were put in after it. Also most blennies need a fairly established tank to really thrive in so maybe do that one latter on as well.

E46Twist: was it a Foxface, or a One-spot Foxface? My understanding is they are two different fish. The One-Spot is smaller than the other.

I personally feel if it's a one spot fox face you should be fine. Also a tomini should be fine as well. Both are very good choice imo

It is a FoxFace Lo, Yes they get a tad bigger, however the one spot still has the ability to get up to 7" It may be fine if introduced as a wee lad, but mine was full size when it went in a 48" tank and was ****ed 24/7. You can for sure go for it just make sure you have a back up plan if it starts to act cramped which will be obvious. After one settles it it should swim at a moderate speed, not frantically all the time. Also you already know this but just watch them in a small tank, don't want to get stung.

1 Blue Chromis (2). Specifically BLUE. Not blue/green.
I'd nix these and go with another type of wrasse
2 Black Clownfish ORA (2)
Good fish
3 Bangaii Cardinal (2) ORA
I'd add a third
4 Royal Gramma -or- Bibolor Dottyback ORA
These guys might not like each other but thery are small and it is a 75G
5 Six Line Wrasse
My six line nearly killed my Carpenter's Flasher wrasse. Had to do a time aout and rearrange the rock. Now thery are cool. Might want to consider a nixing him and adding a colorful Fairy wrasse or a 2 spot hog fish. Beautiful yellow and lots of personality.
6 Bartlett's Anthias
You'll need to need to feed these energized fish 2-3 X per day
7 Black Sailfin Blenny -or- other ORA available Blenny
Nice
8 Watchman Goby ORA /Pistol shrimp pair
Cool
9 One Spot Foxface -OR- Tomini Tang
Too big maybe a Pygmy (Cherub) Angelfish or other dwarf angel but may nibble on LPS or Clams

I would do the gramma over the dottyback. I would also skip the six line & the tang.

You should reconsider the speed at which you want to stock everything. 1, maybe 2 fish a month will be fine.

personally, i would exclude bicolor dottyback, sixline wrasse, 1 blue chromis out of 2, and the foxface out of the list. you'll see some people keeping yellow tangs in their 55s, and you might wanna keep the tang in the future. so this one you decide which fish will be the centerpiece of your tank, tang or foxface. i like kole tang more :D

When it comes to sizing fish I decided a while ago to use the info on liveaquaria. Many people's personal advice is more or less ballpark, but there's a lot of extremes as well which are wildly misinformed and reckless, while others are overly cautious. I'd never put a yellow tang in a 55. The One Spot Foxface is rated for 70gal or better, and is likely to end up being my centerpiece once everyone else has moved in.

The anthias is there as a backup plan if I decided to listen to everyone who seems not to recommend the six line.

Every fish is hit and miss, my sixline is bullied by clowns from time to time and does nothing more than give my scooter the stank eye when it eats something he was eyeing. It never picks on the only fish is smaller than it(Hel FireFish.) I also have a pagoda that would be at a whole table shrimp if it could. A reef can be weird and I have no problem with you taking chances as long as you have a backup. I would love to try a flame angel, but I have now backup for one if it starts to nom on my coral. I am going to be trying a PBT in my 125 which may be too small, but I know 3 guys that would take one in a heart beat if things don't work.

My concern for you is the 10 gal QT. Ammonia builds up FAST! You will likely need to do daily water changes and this is why I recommend both an ammonia badge and limiting your QT to two fish at a time. If you get the One Spot try to get a small one. I introduced a largish one into my 75 and all he ever did was pace the tank and die from Ich. He was the reason I learned so much about QT! Far better off with a small one that grows into your tank because it is a nervous fish.

I've had some Seachem Matrix and filter floss running in my sump for a couple of weeks to build up the bacteria. With that I'm hoping there won't be a need for a long cycle on the QT. I'll be dosing 1-2ppm ammonia tonight to test how quickly it's processed. If it works, I'll load some fresh matrix and floss into the sump to prepare for QT round 2. After round 1 of QT, everything goes in the trash and I start again new for round 2.

IF I can dose 2ppm ammonia and have it process through in 24-36 hours, I'm pretty confident on 3 fish at once. If it takes 48 hours, I'll either dose again to build up, or cut back to 2 fish.

So I'm starting to plan my next step in stocking, hoping my 2 black clowns will be moved from QT to DT in the next while. They'll have been here for at least 4 weeks, plus whatever time it takes to source the next 2 going into QT.

One thing I didn't stop to consider, was how the availability of local stock might impact my schedule. I was hoping that would be a pair of Bangaii Cardinals, but it seems my preferred vendor doesn't and won't have for many weeks.

I'd like to have 2 in QT just to keep somewhat on pace, but they only have six lines when it comes to what's on my list. Now that I look at it, I also have a LOT of black and white and not much color. I need to revise the list I think.
My list was going to be:
1 Black Clownfish ORA (2) - In QT now

2 Bangaii Cardinal (2) ORA
3 Blue reef chromis
4 Six Line Wrasse
5 Black Sailfin Blenny
6 Watchman Goby ORA /Pistol shrimp pair

7 one spot fox face or tomini tang 2nd last
8 Royal Gramma last

Thinking I might switch things around and add a Pygmy (Cherub) Angelfish and either a Fairy Wrasse or a firefish.

you cannot get more color than a fire fish! even the cheap regular guys look stunning, I wish I could keep all 3. flame angels are also a good burst of color. Also some of the wrasses look amazing.
