Gary Majchrzak Team RC Sep 4, 2010 #2 this sounds crazy. what's the problem.... excessively high calcium levels? What's your S.G.? Alkalinity? Mg? stony corals aren't the only reef organisms that consume calcium........

G gandolf8 New member Sep 4, 2010 #3 S.G 1.025 alk 4.0 cal 500 what else is there for calcium ? salt tropic marin
Gary Majchrzak Team RC Sep 4, 2010 #5 agreed- 500ppm Ca is fine! gandolf8 said: Need some corals that will suck up caliums. so I can get it balance any ideas thx. Click to expand... another problem: alkalinity is consumed at an equal (or faster) rate than calcium. Conclusion: adding more corals in order to balance calcium isn't a solution.

Gary Majchrzak Team RC Sep 4, 2010 #9 @ a Ca of 500ppm @ a Ca of 500ppm balanced alkalinity is 6.95 meq/l = 19.5 dKH That's too high of an alkalinity for stony corals IMO. look here for stony corals I find it very important that alkalinity not rise above 11 dKH. Do you supplement calcium or alkalinity? If so, how?

G gandolf8 New member Sep 4, 2010 #10 Say I used a salifert the Dkh is 9.6 and Alk is 3.43 this isn't high I do use Supplement B-Ionic
Gary Majchrzak Team RC Sep 4, 2010 #11 you can choose to bump up alkalinity but whatever you do.... I would not add any more calcium supplement (of any type). I would not recommend running alk above 11dKH. if raising alkalinity with B-ionic go about it slowly as it will also raise pH.
